Hot, sticky, sweet – I love these cinnamon sugar sweet potato fries on the side of burgers (especially veggie burgers) or just by themselves. This recipe is simple and the fries are baked in the oven so you don’t have to break out the deep fryer.
I have a habit of frying things in oil and then letting the oil sit on the stove for days because I don’t want to clean up the greasy, smelly mess. Unfortunately, procrastinating does not work.
Sweet potato – Sweet potatoes are a nutritious root vegetable with bright orangey flesh. Sweet potatoes have a naturally sweet flavor. As they are roast the sugars slightly caramelize for a delicious side. Over half the US sweet potato crops are grown in North Carolina. I cut the sweet potatoes into sticks though they can also be cut into larger spears – thought they may require additional cooking time.
How to Make Baked Cinnamon Sugar Sweet Potato Fries
Cut sweet potatoes. Preheat oven to 425ºF (220ºC). Cut the sweet potatoes into ¼” x ¼” sticks.
Toss sweet potatoes in oil. Add to a medium mixing bowl, and toss the sweet potatoes with oil until evenly coated.
Add cinnamon sugar. In a small bowl stir together the cinnamon, sugar and salt. Add the cornstarch and toss to coat followed by the cinnamon sugar mixture, tossing to coat once more.
Bake fries. Spread out the fries in an even layer on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Season the fries with half of the kosher salt. Bake for 15 minutes then flip the fries over.
Continue baking. Bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, until crispy and lightly browned. Season with the remaining salt and serve.
